SALSA4CHANGE -
Hi my name is Carol Silvera and I have been teaching salsa for over 12 years and I am UKA qualified.  Originally from London but now I live in Derbyshire. I caught the salsa bug back in 1995 and haven't regretted it since!

For me, salsa is about enjoyment and having fun.  My classes are relaxed and everybody has a fun time, why not come along and see for yourself?

Salsa4change is about making a difference, for yourself both mentally and physically but also making a difference for others.  Throughout the year donations are made to various charities that I have an interest in.

One in  particular that is close to my heart is based in the Gambia and I had the opportunity to go out to visit and help out back in 2006.  The charity is called Newlife Childrens Centre click on the link for further information click on  http://sites.myhpf.co.uk/nlcc/ . Another local charity that I suppport is called Village Aid which is based in Bakewell, Derbyshire.  Village Aid work out in West Africa, click on the following link for  further information. www.villageaid.org

Salsa Celebration
On Saturday 15th May the Imperial Rooms in Matlock were host to a sensational Salsa party. Raising £320 for her charities of choice, Christians Against Poverty and Village Aid, Carol Silvera of Salsa 4 Change provided a fantastic evening of music, dancing and entertainment.
The evening kicked off with a full beginner’s lesson, allowing everyone who had come along to pick up new skills or refresh their memories. It was great to know that everyone in the room knew the same basic steps, even if they’d never danced before. This first hour also included a chance to dance with everyone there, making it a true Salsa social.
The hours that followed were filled with dancing. The music barely ever stopped, so the most enthusiastic party-goers were able to literally dance the night away. The only interruptions were for further lessons as the group were introduced to a few different styles of dance including the incredibly fast Electric Slide, and for a brief Salsa birthday tradition, where Carol had the opportunity to dance with all the male guests. What a way to celebrate!
Salsa is a great way to exercise and have some fun while meeting many different people. The vibrant atmosphere of this party showed the number of friendships that have begun and been kept alive by a shared love of Salsa. Why not come along and join in the fun? The next Salsa party will be on July 10th, 2010, and will include a special appearance by Carlos Castelhano, a leading teacher of the increasingly popular African dance style Kizomba.
The dance floor was filled the whole evening with people of all ages doing all types of Salsa and Latin dance. From absolute beginners to the extremely talented everyone was able to take part and have a good time. Many of the guests are regular attendees of Carol’s weekly Salsa lessons, which take place in the Methodist Church on Bank Road in Matlock every Friday, and at the Miner’s Welfare Social Club in Shirland every Tuesday. For more information about these lessons, and future Salsa parties, have a look at http://www.salsa4change.co.uk/, or call Carol on 07789074164.
